This week, researchers from Queen’s University in Canada are launching the KINARM Assessment Station at the Neuroscience 2010 conference in San Diego. The system combines a virtual reality simulator with a chair that features robotic arms that sense user motion. Clinicians can assign tasks for a patient to perform in the virtual world, and the roboarms measure the speed and accuracy of the user’s motions. The system has been commercialized by PARTEQ Innovations, a Queen’s University firm, and BKIN Technologies.
